CHOCOLATERIA SAN GINES

Today’s post is dedicated to all chocolate lovers out there! During my last trip to Madrid I discovered the perfect spot for chocolate con churros (hot chocolate and churros), the famous Chocolatería San Ginés. When a Spanish friend recommended this place, I looked it up, read all the praising reviews and went with high expectations. Luckily, this little cafe was everything I hoped for and more! See, normally places like this end up being awful tourist traps, but in my opinion the Chocolateria San Gines is anything but.

Tucked away in a little passage close to the San Gines church in the centre of Madrid, this cafe has been open since 1984 serving crispy churros and thick dark hot chocolate. Oldie, but goodie! Despite being very busy and fairly inexpensive, there are no lines – you can come by at any time during the day and find a table very quickly. Coffee and cakes are also served, but let’s face it; the churros and hot chocolate are the main event here! Warm, crisp, light and not overly sweet, the churros here are the best I’ve ever had, especially when dipped into the Spanish-style rich hot chocolate. That was it; love at first bite! If you ever visit Madrid, the Chocolateria San Gines is really worth a visit.
